The future belongs to those who can think critically, act ethically and innovate with purpose. That’s why at Chaman Bhartiya School, innovation isn’t just a buzzword for us. It’s a mindset built into everything we do, especially through the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework.
Our goal is to give students an immersive, inquiry-led experience that connects academics to real-world relevance. Here’s a breakdown of our approach to this:
Turning Classrooms into Innovation Hubs
Innovation at CBS begins early. From designing eco-friendly waste systems to reimagining energy conservation through behavioural science, students across grade levels engage in projects that tackle real issues. These aren’t hypothetical problems. They’re deeply rooted in community and global challenges, from food wastage in school cafeterias to improving hygiene in public spaces.
In a recent edition of our school’s PBL (Problem-Based Learning) Exhibition - an initiative at the core of our learning model - students presented projects such as:
- Switch to Save: A behavioural energy-saving campaign that used handmade switch stickers and gamification.
- Beyond the Bin: A compost-based waste management solution to promote sustainability at home and school.
- Enter Without Worry: A mechanical flushing system designed to improve hygiene in Indian railway toilets.
These experiences exemplify how project-based learning in India can empower young minds when it is structured and purpose-driven. Each project was not only student-led but also interdisciplinary - combining design thinking, science, technology, and social awareness to solve meaningful problems.
Real-World Learning Through Action
At CBS, real-world learning in IB takes on many forms - from global collaboration projects and exchange opportunities to on-ground fieldwork and community engagement. But what sets our approach apart is how seamlessly these experiences are embedded into the curriculum.
Through our innovation labs and design studios, students work with real tools - coding devices, 3D printers, robotic kits - to move their ideas from concept to prototype. These practical
engagements are key to experiential learning for students, allowing them to iterate, test, and reflect in a way that standard textbook learning simply cannot achieve.
They aren’t just passive recipients of information. They are researchers, creators, and problem-solvers.
Creativity is More Than Art - It’s a Way of Thinking
We place strong emphasis on creative education in Bangalore by encouraging students to look beyond traditional forms of expression. Creativity is taught as a problem-solving skill, a way to view challenges with fresh eyes and build solutions from imagination, research, and empathy.
Our Whimsical Wednesdays programme is a great example. It blends art, music, theatre, and storytelling into collaborative sessions that build student confidence, communication, and originality. Even STEM-heavy subjects are approached through design thinking lenses, ensuring students always consider functionality, user impact, and aesthetic design.
Through these initiatives, we equip students with both the creative confidence and the technical skills to bring bold ideas to life - one of the hallmarks of innovation in IB schools.
How the IB Framework Supports Innovation
Our commitment to innovation is deeply aligned with the IB philosophy. The IB curriculum promotes inquiry, reflection, and international-mindedness - elements that complement our own vision for future-ready education.
The IB Learner Profile encourages students to be risk-takers, open-minded, and balanced. These traits are essential to thriving in a world where innovation isn’t optional - it’s critical. Through guided mentorship, collaborative assessments, and interdisciplinary projects, students build a foundation of values and skills that prepare them for real-world leadership.
It’s no surprise that some of the most effective project-based learning in India is happening at IB schools, where critical thinking, creativity, and global awareness are interwoven into everyday instruction.
The Outcomes That Matter Most
So, why does all of this matter?
Because learning that connects to the real world is more likely to stay with a child for life. Because problem-solving builds empathy. Because applying what you know is more powerful
than memorising it. And because today’s students will face complex challenges that demand not just knowledge, but courage, innovation, and agility.
At Chaman Bhartiya School, our vision of experiential learning for students isn’t about adding bells and whistles to the curriculum. It’s about rethinking what education can and should be - engaging, reflective, and connected to a rapidly changing world.
